Abdalla the First Egyptian
Volleyball player to achieve European Championship
Cairo,
Egypt, March -: The Italian based Egyptian setter Abdalla Abdel
Salam became the first ever Egyptian player to achieve European
title when he won with Treviso Volleyball team of Italy the Italian
cup this season following their valuable victory over AS Roma 3-0
(25-23, 25-20, 25-13) in the final.
The promising setter who won before the prize of the best Server in
the 2005 FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan was one of the final
march stars and won the prize of the Most Valuable Player MVP at the
end of the thriller match.
The only European based Egyptian National team player now had a
professional contract with Treviso in summer 2006 after he led Al
Ahly his previous club in Egypt to the triple of Egyptian league,
Egyptian Cup and the African Clubs Champions Championship. He stated
his professional; life as a substitute to the Italian national team
setter Valerio Vermiglio until he took the role in the final where
he had a skillful setting to his colleagues specially the Italian
superstars Samuele Papi, Alessandro Fei and Alberto Cisola.
"We had a great victory today after a high performance from all my
players" Said Treviso Head coach Daniele Bagnoli cheerfully after
the match. "The surprise today was our Egyptian setter Abdalla who
did well all through the match and he is considered the MVP of this
competition as a whole." He added.
