2008 Men’s African
Clubs Champions Championship-

20 teams registered in
the strongest competition
Misurata,
Libya, March 26, 2008- Twenty teams were registered to
participate in the 2008 Men’s African Clubs Champions
Championship to be held at Sports Games Hall in Misurata,
Libya 10-18 April 2008 as the deadline set by the
African Volleyball Confederation CAVB have been reached
to the strongest ever competition in this category.
The defending champions Mouloudia of Algeria comes as
one of the strongest participating teams as it reflects
the great advance in the Algerian volleyball that will
represent Africa in the World Olympic qualifications in
Japan. The Algerian champions that won the last
competition in Niger in 2007 will lose the efforts of
some important key players like Ali Kerboua who plays
now in France.
Egypt will be represented by three teams, the record
holder of number of victories Al Ahly, the two times
champions Zamalek and the new force El Guish. Al Ahly
players want to retain the trophy they already won 8
times, the last in 2006 as the squad includes at least 8
players from the Egyptian National team that won the
2007 African Nations Championship and qualified to the
2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Zamalek wants to come back to the African competitions
after 21 years since their last victory in this
competition although they won the other club
competition, African Cup winners cup in 2006.
El Guish wants to go more in this competition after they
reached the final in their first participation in 2007.
Esperance will represent Tunisia which has 14 titles
achieved by four clubs. Esperance has 3 titles under
their built and will participate seeking the fourth.
Cameroon will be represented by the tow big local forces
FAP and Sonel that usually go through to the semifinal
spot.
The host country Libya will be represented by three
clubs aiming to achieve their first victory at the
continental level. The local teams are continuing now
their preparation to the biggest volleyball event
organized by the country. GSU will represent Kenya and
wants to proof the big improvement of their country at
the men’s level like the women who qualified frequently
to World level competitions.
Daim Hamad and Al Sagana will represent Sudan, while
Bulldogs and Kutama Old Boys will be Zimbabwe
representatives. Other participating clubs are Force
Terrestre (RD Congo), Manga sport (Gabon) and Rukinzo
(Burundi).
