Ahly
meets Mouloudia, Prisons plays KC Bank in the semifinal
Cairo,
Egypt, May 1, 2008- KC Bank completed their progress and
defeated Mouloudia of Algeria in their last match of
pool B in the 2008 Women’s African Clubs Champions
Championship to lead the pool without dropping a set,
but both teams secured before their tickets to the
semifinal with Al Ahly of Egypt and Prisons of Kenya who
secured before also their semifinal tickets. VC Canon
achieved their competition first victory over Mafolofolo
of Botswana in the final day of the preliminary round of
the competition here at Abdalla Al Faysal Hall in Ahly
club Cairo, Egypt on Thursday.
At the end of the preliminary round Al Ahly finished at
the top of Pool A with 6 points ahead of Prisons who
ended second with 5 points and both teams qualified to
the semifinal followed by Bafia of Cameroon in the third
position and Nkumba University at the bottom of the
pool. KC Bank ended their road at the top of pool B with
8 points in four matches followed by Mouloudia in the
second position with 7 points, then Shams third 6
points, VC Canon fourth 5 points and Mafolofolo at the
bottom of the pool with 4 points.
The competition will be resumed on Friday with the
semifinal matches where Ah Ahly meets Mouloudia, while
the other semifinal will be a purely Kenyan clash
between Prisons the local league champions and the
runner up KC Bank. In the play off of raking 5-8
positions Bafia of Cameroon meets VC Canon of RD Congo
and Nkumba university of Uganda plays Shams of Egypt.
The matches were attended by CAVB President Dr. Amr
Elwani, Local Organizing Committee Mr. Mohamed
Abdelwahab, the control committee president Mr. Baba Sy,
CAVB Referee commission president Mr. Hassan Ahmed, CC
member Amada Sidiyane and Referee delegate Salamba and
CAVB technical director Howyda Mondy and Ahly Sports
Manager Samir Abdrabou.
KC Bank of Kenya made it four out of four beating
Mouloudia of Algeria 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) in a
match determining the top of Pool B. KC Bank ended the
first round at the top of Pool B with a win – loss ratio
of 4-0 and without dropping a set. Mouloudia dropped to
1-3 and finished second.
It was another great match for the superstars of KC Bank
specially Dorcas Ndasaba and the efficient center
Margret, they led their team to the big victory that
made them a great favorite to the title. Mouloudia did
their best specially the setter Fatima Okazi and the
right attacker Amel Khamtachi, but they couldn’t
withstand the superior performance of the Kenyan team.
VC Canon of RD Congo achieved their competition first
victory over Mafolofolo of Botswana in straight sets
(25-22, 25-20, 25-15). VC Canon improved their record to
1-3 to compete for the ranking positions 5-8 leaving
Mafolofolo at the bottom of the pool and finished their
competition matches at the 9th position.
