Shams fifth, Bafia sixth, Canon seventh and Nkumba

Egypt, May 3, 2008- Al Shams of Egypt won the fifth
position in the 2008 Women’s African Clubs Champions
Championship following their victory over Bafia
Evolution of Cameroon who finished at the 6th
position, while VC Canon of RD Congo defeated Nkumba
University of Uganda to end at the 7th
position leaving Nkumba at the 8th position
in the ranking 5-8 matches her at Abdalla Al Faysal Hall
in Ahly club Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
The competition will end
on Sunday when Mouloudia of Algeria meets prisons of
Kenya in the competition final which will be preceded by
the Bronze medal match between KC Bank of Kenya and Al
Ahly of Egypt
Al Shams of Egypt took
over Bafia of Cameroon 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-23) in 75
minutes in the 5th and 6th
positions. Shams finished the competition at the 5th
position which is one step worse than their 4th
position in 2007. Bafia finished 6th in their
first participation in an African competition.
Al Shams overwhelmed the
situation through their good spikers specially Dina
Assal in position 4 and Samar Ebeid in position 2.
Although Bafia players are less experienced than Shams
players, they led many times specially in the third set
but Shams succeeded to win the critical points in each
set. Bafia star Nana Tchoudjang was the match scorer
with 20 points.
VC Canon of RD Congo
clinched the 7th position following their
victory over Nkumba University of Uganda 3-0 (25-10,
25-22, 25-20) in 67 Minutes. Nkumba finished the
competition in the 8th position. Canon
controlled the match from the start through the better
reception and the solid block, while Nkumba complained
again of their weak backline defense. Inoku Bofeyi was
the match star with her efficient spikes and the good
timing in block and was also the match scorer with 17
points.
