Egypt wins the trophy and
Qualified to Grand Champions Cup
Cairo, Egypt, September 29-:
The organizers Egypt claimed the trophy of the fifteenth
Men's African
Nations
Championship here in Cairo stadium complex following their
historic victory over Tunisia in a fantastic final full of
thrills on Thursday. Egypt qualified automatically to the
Grand Champions Cup in Japan in November 2005. The match was
attended by all CAVB Board of Administration member led by
CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani who will meet in the Congress
October 1 and 2.
In front of more than 4000 spectators Egypt succeeded to
clinch a 3-1 victory (25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19) over their
Arch Rivals who defeated them in the final of the same
competition in 2003. the match was very exciting and full of
thrills that kept the spectators on their toes all through.
Egypt started the match aided by a big number of excited
home spectators to lead from the start 8-6 after a group of
powerful from the wing spiker Saleh Fathi and then continued
their superiority in block by Mohamed El Sayed and Ossama
Komsan to continue they leading to 16-10. Ahmed Salah did a
good job in spiking from position 2 to lead Egypt to win the
set 25-16.
Tunisia improved their block in the second set using the
middle players Chaker Ghzal and Hosni Karmosly to lead 8-3.
Egypt suddenly came to match improving the back line defense
to reach to the draw 9-9. Tunisia led the net action again
to improve the score to 16-14 for their side using the
strong hits of Noureddine Hfaiedh. Egypt again arranged
their disciplined attacks to win the set 25-23.
Tunisia was better in the third set and used their good
backline defense to lead 8-5 and then they developed the
attacks through Marwan Fehri and Hfaiedh to continue leading
16-13. Tunisia used the frequent mistakes of Egypt in
service and reception to win the set 25-22.
The spirit of the Tunisian players increased and thus they
started the fourth set in better form to lead 8-7 by the
spikes of Khalid Belaid and Karmosly and the defense
mistakes by the Egyptian defense. Egypt used the strong
spike service of Abdalla
Abdelsalam to allow Egypt to come strongly to the set and
lead 16-12. Egypt spikers, specially Ahmed Salah and Hamdy
El Safy overwhelmed the net action to lead the team to a
wide victory of the set 25-19 and match 3-1.
Cameroon claimed the bronze medal following their victory
over Morocco in straight sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. Cameroon
used their big gun Elysee Ossosso to penetrate Morocco block
aided by Jean Nziemi.
"We used the big victory in the Mediterranean Games in Spain
to have a high spirit team which reached to the top in this
competition" Said Egyptian Coach Veclin Vukovic of Serbia.
"Now we are looking forwards to have good presentation for
Africa in the Grand Champions Cup in Japan" He added.

Egypt and Tunisia to
final spot
Cairo, Egypt, September 28-:
The organizers Egypt and the defending champions Tunisia,
qualified to the final spot of the fifteenth Men's African
Nations Championship here in Cairo stadium complex following
their victories over Morocco and Cameroon in the
semifinal of the competition on Wednesday . Egypt will meet
Tunisia in the final of the competition on Thursday where
the winner will gain the cup and also will qualify
automatically to the Grand Champions Cup in Japan. November
2005.
Egypt found it easy to go through the final after a
comfortable victory over Morocco in straight sets (25-19,
25-29, 25-19) in 60 minutes. Egypt managed their situation
using the experienced players specially Hamdy El Safy and
Saleh Fathi and the newly emerging first team additions the
setter Abdalla Abdel Salam and Ahmed Salah to win the first
set 25-19 in 20 minutes.
In the second set Morocco came to the match with the block
of Rashid Boussalham to control the strong hits of the
Egyptians but again Egypt won the set 25-19 in 20 minutes.
The third set was the best for Morocco as they led for the
first time 8-7 by the spikes of Karim Oughdach and continued
till 9-8 when Egypt again led the match through the spikes
of Ahmed Salah to reach 19-10 and then continued to win the
set 25-19 and the match in straight sets.
In the most exciting match of the match of the competition
Tunisia rebounded from two sets behind to claim a thriller
3-2 victorry (19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-10) over the
struggling Cameroon in two hours of fantastic volleyball.
Cameroon started the match aggressively to lead using the
strong hits of the wing spikers Jean Nziemi and Elysee
Ossosso to lead 16-12 then to win the set 25-19. The same
occurred in the second set as Cameroon dominated by the
block of El Hadj Abbas against the spikes of Noureddine
Hfaiedh and Khalid Belaid to win 25-19.
Tunisia tried to save the match in the third set as they
improved their backline defense by the libero Anouar
Taourghi to lead 8-3 then 20-16 before Cameroon increased
their powerful attacks to come near again but Tunisia
managed to win the set 25-23.
Tunisian spirit increased to fight again in the fourth set
using the recurrent mistakes of Cameroon players in
reception and digging to lead 8-3. Cameroon quickly arranged
their defense and their head coach replaced the setter Alain
Denguessi with Ndaki to narrow the point deficit to 18-17,
but the better Tunisian team ended the set 25-22 and
extended the match to the tiebreak.
In the tiebreak it went point by point till the draw 5-5
when Cameroon deployed their solid block against to lead
7-5. Tunisia again used the attacks of Hfaiedh to score
three successive points and lead 8-7. Cameroon team suddenly
disturbed and the more experience Tunisian players used the
situation to win the set 15-10 and qualify to the final to
defend their title. |

Tunisia- Morocco to semifinal Tickets

September 26-:
The organizers Egypt, the defending champions
Tunisia,
Cameroon and Morocco secured their semifinal tickets in the
fifteenth Men's African Nations Championship here in Cairo
stadium complex after the final day of the preliminary round
on Monday. Egypt will meet Morocco in the semifinal of the
competition on Wednesday while Tunisia meets Cameroon.
Again Egypt used the experienced stars to clinch their
fourth victory in row over the optimistic Nigerian team play
only for the victory to have the semifinal slot. Egypt
needed an hour to end the job and win 3-0 (25-17, 25-14,
25-18) and lead pool A with 8 points and allowing Cameroon
which was in a day off to qualify to the semifinal as second
of the pool with 7 points.
South African achieved their only victory in the competition
over Botswana 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22).
In the most important match of the day Morocco defeated
Rwanda 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-15) to secure the second slot
in pool B following Tunisia already secured the top of the
pool after their four victory. RD Congo defeated Sudan 3-1
(23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20) to raise their points to 6
points equal with Morocco and Rwanda but Morocco was ranked
second with the set ratio. |
Tunisia and Egypt
secure semifinal Tickets
Cairo, Egypt, September 25-:
The organizers Egypt and the defending champions Tunisia
secured their semifinal
tickets
in the fifteenth Men's African Nations Championship here in
Cairo stadium complex after Both teams continued their
victory rhythm in the competition day four defeating South
Africa and Sudan respectively.
RD Congo sets the biggest competition surprise till now
defeating Morocco, while Cameroon claimed their third
victory over in row over Nigeria to become near a second
round vacancy.
Tunisia used their experienced stars to set the fourth
victory in the competition in their last game in the
preliminary round over Sudan in straight sets (25-13, 25-11,
25-13). The Tunisian star Khalid Belaid used his strong hits
to disturb the Sudanese defense and have the easy win.
Egypt found it easy to pull of their third victory over
South Africa 3-0 (25-18, 25-18. 25-18). The organizers used
the strong hits of Hamdy El Safy and Ahmed Salah as well as
the middle blocker Mahmoud El Komy to clinch this victory.
RD Congo played their best when they achieved the
competition biggest surprise defeating Morocco 3-2 (25-17,
25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11) in more than two hours of
exciting volleyball. Congo stars Atov Mosange and Musambay
Djamani were the key players in this outstanding
performance.
Cameroon became near a second round vacancy when they
defeated Nigeria 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19), but their
situation will determined after Egypt meets Nigeria on
Monday in the last day of the preliminary round. Cameroon
team was better in block through El Hadj Abbas and Sombang
Tonemassa and also in attack using the strong hits of Jean
Nziemi.
Cameroon ending their preliminary round matches led pool A
with 7 points ahead of Egypt coming second with 6 points
then Nigeria third with 5 points. In pool B Tunisia ended
the preliminaries with the full points (8) and secured the
top of the pool leaving Rwanda second with 5 points and both
Morocco and RD Congo third with 4 points.
The final day of the preliminary round on Monday will
feature Egypt vs. Nigeria and Botswana vs. South Africa in
pool A, while pool B will show Rwanda vs. Morocco and Sudan
vs. RD Congo |
Tunisia and Cameroon

The defending champions Tunisia claimed their third victory
in row in their pools over
Morocco
in the most exciting match of the third day of the fifteenth
African Nations Championship here in Cairo stadium complex.
The organizers Egypt, Cameroon and Rwanda set their second
victory to enter the competition for a second round vacancy.
In the match of the day Tunisia didn't find the way easy to
defeat Morocco 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-10, 25-20) in pool B as
Morocco showed a good volleyball skills led by Zakaria Bairi
and Karim Oughdach specially when they won the second set to
hold the score at 1-1 in sets. Tunisia felt danger to win
the third and fourth sets after due to the effective spikes
of Noureddine Hfaiedh and Khalid Belaid as well as the solid
block of Chaker Ghazal.
Egypt used some of the bench players to set a straight sets
victory over Botswana (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) in 62 minutes in
pool A. The Serbian coach of Egypt Veclin Vukovic used 8
players of his squad and kept the team star Hamdi El Safy
and the middle blocker Ossama Komsan on bench, but due to
the experience difference Egypt controlled the net action
although most of the players were out of their usual form
except Saleh Fathi, the match scorer with 13 points.
Cameroon had a straight sets victory over South Africa
(25-17, 25-23, 27-25) in 66 minutes in pool A. Cameroon wing
spiker Jean Nziemi was the match star with 19 points scored
coming as the day best scorer.
The emerging Rwanda found it easy to have a 3-0 victory
(25-19, 25-22, 25-19) over RD Congo in 67 minutes in pool B.
the Rwandan player Eric Usabiman was the match star scoring
17 points for his team.
By the end of day three Cameroon led pool A with 5 points in
3 matches ahead of Egypt 4 points in 2 matches, Nigeria 4
points in 2 matches.
Tunisia led pool B with 6 points in three matches ahead of
Rwanda 5 points and Morocco 4 points.

Tunisia and Nigeria
set second victory
Cairo, Egypt, September 23-:
The defending champions Tunisia and Nigeria both claimed
their second victory in row
in
their pools over RD Congo and South Africa in the second day
of the fifteenth African Nations Championship here in Cairo
stadium complex. Cameroon and Rwanda set their first victory
over Botswana and Sudan.
In the match of the day Cameroon clinched a difficult
victory over Botswana 3-2 (24-26, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24,
15-11) in pool A. Botswana started the match aggressively
deploying their solid block against the strong Cameroon
spikes. Cameroon came on time to win the third and fourth
sets and then the tiebreak.
Pool A showed another five setter match as Nigeria defeated
South Africa narrowly 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 22-25,
15-12) in a fantastic match full of thrills.
Pool B showed Tunisia achieving their second victory over RD
Congo 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-14) to lead the pool with 4
points. Rwanda had a surprised victory over Sudan 3-0
(29-27, 25-17, 25-19). |
Egypt defeated Cameroon in a thriller five setters
Cairo, Egypt, September 22-: The organizers Egypt needed more than two hours to claim a difficult victory over Cameroon in a thriller match kept the home side spectators on their toes till the end in the opening of the fifteenth African Nations Championship here in Cairo stadium complex. Tunisia had also an easy victory over Botswana, while Nigeria beated Botswana and Morocco defeated Sudan.
It was actually the match of the day when Egypt took over Cameroon 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11) after a fantastic performance of the stars of both team. The matter looked difficult for the Egyptians from the first set although they had good support from the home crown as they won hardly 26-24 due to their improved defense and blocks by the net. Cameroon team used the experience of the professional to win the second and third sets more comfortably before Egypt used their big guns Ahmed Salah and Hamdi El Safy to win the fourth set to extend the match to tiebreak. Cameroon was better in the start of the final set to lead 9-5 before Egyptian performance raised to the top to win 10 points against only two from Cameroon to clinch the set 15-11 and the difficult match.Tunisia claimed 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) in 67 minutes. The Tunisians controlled the match all through.
Nigeria beat Borswana 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-19) in 69 minutes as Nigeria overwhelmed the net actionb threough the efficient spikers and solid blocks.
Morocco took over Sudan 3-1 in a match seemed to play a great role in defining the qualifier to the semifinal of this pool

Egypt in the death pool, Tunisia big favorite
Cairo, Egypt, September 21-:
the drawing of lots put the organizers Egypt in the death
pool in the finals of the fifteenth
Men’s African Nations Championship due to start in Cairo on
Thursday as they will face the last competition bronze
medalists Cameroon, the emerging South Africa, the strong
Nigeria and Botswana in competition pool A. the defending
champions, Tunisia will face Morocco, Sudan, Rwanda and RD
Congo in the relatively weaker pool.
The competition will show an early face off between the
organizers and the lions of Cameroon on Thursday. The lions
try to take the revenge from the host after they were
defeated in the final match of the African qualification
tournament to 2006 World Championship in Alexandria last
March to give the Egyptians the qualification ticket. Pool A
will show also Nigeria to meet Botswana, while Pool B will
feature Tunisia vs. Rwanda and Morocco vs. Sudan.
“We have to prove our strength even though we are put in
the strong pool” Said the Serbian Coach of Egypt, Veclin
Vukovic after the drawing of lots. “we are looking forwards
to have the African vacancy in the Grand Champions cup in
Japan to continue our victories after the great win of the
gold medal in the last Mediterranean Games in Spain, but
this requires a great work from the players and the
technical staff” He added. |
12 teams compete for
Grand Champions Cup Vacancy
Twelve African teams will compete for the biggest trophy in
African Volleyball history when they struggle in the
fifteenth African Nations Championship to be held in Cairo,
Egypt 22- 30 September 2005 to secure the first ever
continental vacancy in the prestigious Grand Champions Cup
in Japan in November 2005.
Egypt, the gold medalist in the last Mediterranean Games in
Almaria, Spain 2005 and Tunisia, the defending Champions
comes as the greatest favorites for the title as both teams
claimed the two African slots in the finals of 2006 World
Championship in Japan. Cameroon, South Africa and Nigeria
are considered also big forces to claim the title. The
competition will feature also Morocco, RD Congo, Kenya,
Sudan, Madagascar, Botswana and Rwanda.
Egypt had a successful preparation programme in Serbia
Montenegro playing seven matches their including an
international competition. The last competition runner up
has many experienced stars led by the wing spiker Hamdy El
Safi and the libero, Wael El Aidy.
Tunisia had also a concentrated programme to defend their
title. The team will use the big stars Nour Eddine Hfaidh
and the setter Ghazi Guidara.
South Africa comes as one of the big emerging teams
specially after their high performance in the World
Championship qualifications in Tunisia when they defeated
both Algeria and Morocco. |
