2006 Women's World
Championships- Egypt
Egypt defeated Nigeria and had a first qualification Vacancy
Cairo, Egypt, March 19-: Egypt Women volleyball team secured a World
Championship vacancy in Japan 2006 to be the first team in the globe
to have this ticket from the qualifications to join the
automatically qualified teams, the organizers, Japan and the
defending
champions,
Italy. Egypt pulled off a straight sets victory over Nigeria (25-15,
25-14, 25-14) in the third and final day of the African Women's
Group A African qualification held in Abdalla Alfaysal Hall in
Al-Ahly club in Cairo, Egypt.
The match was attended by some big guests headed by Dr. Aly
Elsaadany, the president of sports section in the Ministry of
Sports, Mr. Bob Clarke, FIVB Sports events coordinator, Dr.Amr
Elwani, CAVB President and most of the CAVB Executive committee
members attending the meeting here in Cairo.
South Africa was ranked third after their victory over Botswana
(25-15, 25-19, 25-7).
The Egyptian Women team used the artistry of the Superstars
specially Tahani Toson, Sherihan Sameh and the efficient setter
Yasra Abdelkarim to have this considerable victory which led them to
a second successive World Championships spot as they qualified to
the last edition in Germany 2002. The Egyptian Coach, Hesham Badrawy
Gave the victory to the name of the Egyptian first lady, Mrs. Suzan
Mubarak which followed the team preparations and encourage the team
to have this achievement.
Egypt had a powerful start through the solid block of Sherihan Sameh
and Tahani Toson and the effective spikes of the Middle player Ingy
Hamdy from position 3 and succeeded also to stop Nigeria big gun
Esther Dusu and Priscilla Agera. Egypt continued in the same rhythm
all through the match.
Egyptian coach kept the standing team in the ground without
substitution to keep their pace and thus Egypt continued the high
performance till the end of the match.
