Egypt Defeated Spain and Wins the Gold after Exciting Performance

Almeria, Spain, July 4-: Egypt Volleyball Men Team recorded a Brave page in the history of the sport after their respectable victory over the strong Spain team in the final of the volleyball competition of the fifteenth Mediterranean Games on Sunday in Almeria, Spain after an exciting five setter match 3-2 to win the gold medal of the competition for the first time.
The other African team, Tunisia came fourth after loosing to Serbia Montenegro in the third place match 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 29-27).
The final was the best match in the competition as Egypt won in a tiebreaker 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-17, 18-16 after a high performance of all the team stars specially the emerging Ahmed Salah and the experienced Hamdy Elsafy as both used their strong spikes in the critical periods of the match. The strong block of Mahmoud ElKomy and ossama Komsan helped the team also to rebuild the attacks specially in the tiebreak which went point by point till Egypt won narrowly 18-16 after a successful block from Elsafy.
The Mediterranean Games is considered one of the main preparation programme for both Egypt and Tunisia for the fifteenth African Nations Championship in Egypt next September which is also qualifying to the Grand Champions cup in Japan 2005.
"This is the Best achievement for Egypt since I started with the team in 2003" Said the Serbian Coach of Egypt, Vecline Vukovic. "I want to thank all my players specially Hamdy Elsafy and Ahmed Salah for their high performance all through the competition and particularly in the final" He added.
